Prudence was picked up as a stray by the Merced Animal Shelter on April 16th, 2008. She spent the
next 6 days in a kennel surrounded by many other small breed dogs waiting for their owners to come reclaim them.
Unfortunately, Prudence's owners never came and so she was released to our group, Emmie's Animal Rescue.
Upon rescuing Prudence, we quickly noticed how very pregnant she is and immediately
brought her to our vet to determine her health and current needs. Our vets at
Pet Medical Center have determined that Prudence is approximately
four years old and is about 55 days into her 63 day gestation period. We took xrays to determine the number and size of
the puppies and are expecting between three and five wiggly little pups around the second week of May 2008.
Because Prudence is a small breed dog and was impregnated as a stray, her puppies could be any kind of mix from a Chihuahua
or Great Dane! Hopefully her puppies are mixed with another small breed dog and will be able to easily pass through her
birth canal. If they are not able to easily pass, she will require an emergency C-Section which could cost us anywhere from
$1,000 to $2,500! Please join
Prudence's Online Family by making a $10 or more donation towards her care. As a member of Prudence's Online
Family, you will receive weekly updates including photos and a journal entry from her perspective. Once the puppies are
born, you will continue to receive weekly updates, photos, and journal entries about their progress.
